Geoff curses Will for his blindness, sometimes. Even after all that has happened, he still has eyes only for Jocelyn.
Was Jocelyn standing on the stocks with a hammer in her hand that day, prepared to fight to protect the man she claims to love? Of course she wasn't. Kate was, although any man in that crowd could have broken her in two without effort.
Geoff has spent too many nights listening to Kate cry over Will. Too many days listening to Will rave about his princess, before running off to her without a look back. He never even notices.
Well, just because Will can't see what's in front of his face, doesn't mean no one else can. Will has had his chance. And soon, Geoff will make his move.
Roland has had just about enough of this. Wat and Geoff have been dancing around each other for months now, neither quite daring to make the first move. Roland knows as well as they do that they both want a good roll in the hay together.
He despairs of them ever working up the courage to do anything about it. He's decided that what they need is a little push - just a nudge to give them the impetus they need.
That's why he persuaded Kate to lend him her rooms for the evening, and talked Will into helping him with his plan. And that's why he's locked them both in. They're not leaving till morning.
