An unsolicited gift for lord_alexander

The first time Pepper met Carmine, she was twelve, and she was directly responsible for the woman's temporary destruction.

She doesn't consciously remember that meeting. But sometimes Carmine features in her dreams.

The next time they met, in some war-torn town a long way from Lower Tadfield, Pepper was no longer a child. She took one look at Carmine's red hair, and her almost unnatural beauty, and forgot why she was there, although it had been important to her once. When the other woman held out a hand, Pepper took it without question.

She has been following Carmine ever since.

This is fantastic. Not just because it's War/Pepper, although that's pretty fantastic in itself, but also because you've captured that essential Pepper-ness of Pepper so well and so simply.

Um, I probably owe you several buckets of drool for all these wonderful drabbles I've been reading and enjoying. The Neverwhere snips in particular are just wonderful beyond belief (Marquis/Richard = OTP!!!!1!!) and remind me a little of Gneil's own drabble in Smoke and Mirrors (Nicolas Was...). And just when I think your choice of fandoms can't get any better, you drop a Giles/Ethan/Curt/Brian or a Red Dwarf/H2G2 and suddenly I'm back drooling into a bucket and twitching merrily.

Also, hi!
