Question for the flist. If you have zip files, and you unzip them, can you safely delete the zipped versions without losing what was in them?

(And is keeping them why more of my hard drive is filled up than I think should be?)

Yes. Once you unzip, the files that were in the zip are copied to wherever you unzipped them to.

It's safe to do, yep, but I'm also prone to keeping zip files in case of data loss/hard drive crash/nuclear winter.

Although, if you have zips of things you want to keep in case of emergency, I find that CD and DVD burners are an excellent solution... You just have to not lose the written media. ;)
